Kari Allman has been creating her entire life. When she launched her company in the spring of last year, Kari decided that the focus of her jewelry would be the highest quality pieces made almost completely from repurposed jewelry.

“This past year has been better than I had imagined! When I left my full-time job last spring, I had a plan, but still didn’t completely know what I was doing or how the first year would actually go,” she said. “I just knew that I wanted to continue making a living as an artist and sell my work in the form of jewelry.”

The pieces Kari creates evolve from original jewelry that’s found at estate sales, antique stores or from boxes of jewelry that someone is giving away. Another entity that sets Kari Lane Jewelry apart from other handmade jewelry companies is the fact that the customer can create custom pieces from heirloom jewelry that has been passed down from other family members. She often uses people’s “old” costume jewelry they’ve inherited and creates new, up-to-date pieces with it.

“This is one of the most enjoyable parts of my job! I love getting to work with people to give them custom jewelry that they love wearing, and that also has a personal story behind it.”

Commitment to creating unique pieces stems from Kari’s natural creativity as well as accountability from the customer.

“My clients appreciate the uniqueness, quality, and artistry that goes into each one-of-a-kind piece,” Kari said. “They understand the difference between cheap, mass-produced jewelry and the quality that comes with handmade items.”

“My desire is for the customer to be elated with their purchase and have their one-of-a-kind piece be something that they want to wear over and over again!”

A great casual, but also dressy option is this faux leather jacket. It’s the perfect shade of brown. Wear it with jeans, a white tee, flats, and you have a great casual look. Pair it with heels, and you’re ready for a night out. It’s a solid, versatile look to finish off this winter season!

I met Debra a year ago when she started The For the City Network‘s Jobs for Life class. A few weeks ago, we celebrated her full year of sobriety. I captured a few pictures of her before her party. Over the next year, my goal is to capture more photos of faces. Here’s a first post!

This week on the blog, I’m featuring my talented friend, Lacey Craig. She began painting a few years ago. I love how her art is always cheerful, whimsical and colorful.

“I use bright colors, deep texture, and glossy finish to create playful, cheery acrylic paintings that add a little bit of energy and enthusiasm to your home. I am inspired by anything from the beauty of nature to a well-decorated home. I believe that flowers are some of the most spectacular things in the world, so you will find plenty in my work.”

Although painting is her first passion, she has recently launched a new line of stationery. For commissioned paintings or custom stationery, contact laceyecraig@gmail.com.
